At long last, Mac Miller is back. The 23-year-old bonafide superstar has been puzzlingly (albeit strategically) quiet over the course of the past two years since he released the critically acclaimed Watching Movies With The Sound Off in June 2013. He resurfaced, unannounced, in May of last year with his Faces mixtape, but Mac drops and announcements have been few and far between otherwise.
Thankfully, that’s all changed on a dime. Last night, he dropped a brand new single called “100 Grandkids” with an outstanding accompanying video, then hit Hot 97 first this morning to announce the release date of his forthcoming album, GO:OD AM (September 18), and that a national tour is set to kick off before the end of September.
It’s officially Mac season, and with “100 Grandkids,” it’s hard to argue that anyone shouldn’t be intrigued or paying attention to his next set of moves. A two-part song produced by Sha Money XL and the classic pairing of Big Jerm and ID Labs (in that order), “100 Grandkids” is a thoroughly engaging banger chock full of tight rhymes, crafty wordplay (“I made a mill before I paid a bill, fools worried about a wave, I’m a navy seal”) and the wonderfully familiar, crisp Mac delivery.
Watch “100 Grandkids” above, and peep the near 30-minute Hot 97 interview below—it’s entertaining and well worth your time. GO:OD AM drops September 18. Stay tuned.
