Saba is one of Chicago’s most promising up-and-comers, and if you’re not familiar, now’s the time to change that. With his forthcoming project, #ComfortZone, dropping on July 15th, the young emcee has shared the tape’s latest single with an accompanying visual.
“Butter,” self-produced and featuring Jamila of M&O, is an overtly summer record. It surfaced in audio form (below) three weeks ago, and after it gained a bit traction on Soundcloud, Saba supplemented it with a perfectly themed video. Directed by Caves of HOTC TV, the clip acts as a scrapbook of sorts, laced with shots of Saba with his crew, solo rapping from atop sun-dried California hills, and B-roll of the world beneath them as they’re in flight. It’s warm in color and mood, and the vibe is refreshingly optimistic. Jamila’s vocals lace the track together beautifully, and once it’s through, we get the sense that Saba is astutely aware of the life changes he’s set to experience with the release of #ComfortZone and beyond.
