While all signs have been pointing to an epic Big K.R.I.T. comeback as of late, another Mississippi rapper is readying his coming out party. Pell – who’s making his Fresh Heir debut this evening – has been buzzing for the past year or so, but it’s looking like he’s about to take things to the next level. The 21-year-old just got off a 25-city tour with Yonas and is dropping a new album in two weeks. Yesterday, he unleashed the third single off the project and perhaps his biggest individual release to date, the Boldy James-assisted “SC2014.”
Powered by a rich, emotive Staccs instrumental, the Complex-premiered “SC2014” finds Pell in a reflective state of mind, the type where he “can’t sleep but I wanna dream, thoughts dance like they on a beam.” The layered, melodic hook is intensely thought-provoking, and Boldy’s closing verse serves as a perfectly gritty accompaniment to Pell’s opening pair.
Along with the single release, Pell announced that his upcoming album Floating While Dreaming will be releasing on May 20th, and the 12 tracks will include appearances from Curtis Williams, PJ Morton, Ludwig Goransson and more. Stream “SC2014” after the jump, and stay tuned as we’ll be supporting the album drop later this month.
