The homie Kadeem – also known as O.K. – dropped an impressive four-track EP called Yo Um… two nights ago. I knew he was working on some new shit and was looking forward to hearing it all along, but when he revealed the cover art (above) a couple weeks back, my anticipation rose to new levels. It was clean, creative and fun… and as it turns out, the project as a whole is much the same.
The Boston emcee delivered the EP through his own website, which launched with the tape drop and consists of an embedded stream next to a version of the cover art that users can drag their cursors and doodle on. Please don’t hesitate to find out what that means for yourself.
The innovative rollout made the project even more worth listening to, and after a few spins, I’m happy to say it doesn’t disappoint. The standout joint for me is the two-part “Few Words,” which starts out hard-hitting and triumphant, and closes out smooth and slow-riding. O.K.’s wordplay is elite all the way through, though, and the same can be said for the other three tracks. There’s personality infused throughout, the production – from Haasan Barclay, Steve Cool, Natural Cure and James Rogers – is on point, and there is truly no shortage of bars.
Stream and download the project in full HERE, and stay tuned for more. I’m excited to see where O.K. goes from here. Shouts to Boston’s Mixed By Ali aka Spare Monkey Studio on the mixing and mastering.
