Not long after he released a surpassingly stellar cover to Bright Eyes‘ “Lua”, the growingly diverse talent that is Mac Miller has yet another new track for us today in “Diablo”, produced by his alter ego Larry Fisherman. A rather atypical drum pattern – one with syncopated pairings of kicks and shakers – provides a steady support system for the rest of the beat, as if an army of Miller minions marches forward towards some destination at a steady pace Floating above these drums is a loop of morose piano keys, twinkling like stars as Mac name-drops constellations.
“This ain’t shit, I’m just doodling”
You get the feeling that such a statement applies to Mac’s musical output as of late, too. While this song appears to be nothing more than a street/internet single, it continues to cement Miller as a force to be reckoned with in the rap game. Listen to “Diablo” below.
