Boston Hip-Hop Highlights: 2013

Dutch ReBelle – “Ammo/Freddie”

The Queen of Boston was relatively quiet in 2013, but that can only mean a big year is on the horizon. Dutch’s video for “Ammo/Freddie” – two joints off Married To The Music (2012) – surfaced mid-summer. If this is your first time hearing of Dutch, though, check out “Sunday Morning” for an official introduction. That video, which earned her a spot on MTV’s RapFix, dropped in the closing days of 2012.

Dutchy – “Team With Me”

This kid came out of nowhere earlier this month but made a pretty impressive statement with his debut video. I’m not sure what, if anything, Dutchy has up his sleeve to be revealed in the near future, but I’m looking forward to it. “Team With Me” has a Lil Durk-ish feel to it, but there’s also something unique about it at the same time.

Millyz – “The Plug”

If there was any song out of Boston in 2013 that was street hot, it was Millyz‘s “The Plug.” The single off Future Memories made a ton of noise upon release and remains one of my favorite tracks at year’s end.

Moe Pope & Rain ft. Tea Leigh – “Sunday Morning // Cocaine”

Moe Pope‘s artistry has always been on another level, and this two-in-one video for “Sunday Morning” and “Cocaine” served as a perfect reminder a few months back.

Jeff Replay & Nick Gray – “Know Love”

The Pilot Nation representers crafted one for the ladies with “Know Love,” and the Danny Dizzy visual brought the record to life quite successfully. This was one of the most well-received tracks off the Nation’s Expensive Heat project.
