I’m not gonna call Earl the best rapper alive. At the same time, though, I’m not gonna say he definitely isn’t. I’ll leave that debate for another day… probably years down the road.
One thing’s for sure – there’s no one that can rap quite like Thebe. He released “Chum” last month, but Columbia Records just dropped this lyric video to complement the track. I haven’t listened to it in a few weeks, and I’m glad the arrival of this set of visuals reminded me of how good it is. The video is simple, but the display of lyrics flashing across the screen adds a really interesting element to the song. It’s one thing to close your eyes and listen to Earl weave words and sentences together effortlessly, but it’s another to actually SEE them. In a sense, it becomes even more impressive.
He’s a gifted lyricist – a wordsmith and a poet. If he’s able to move forward and compile standout tracks and complete projects, we might actually be able to call him one of, if not the best, rappers alive in as little as a few years.
Stay tuned for more.
