I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to say it until the world is listening: Boston has rappers. But look, I’m not talking about the Boston of old, and I’m definitely not talking about the Boston rappers of old. With all due respect to anyone who’s been a part of the city’s scene in the past, there’s a new class in town that’s poised to make an impact on a national level and redefine what it means to be a rapper coming out of Beantown (more on that HERE).
Anyway, one of those artists on the rise is Reem, an 18-year-old rapper who before last week, did not have an official performance under his belt. Early this year, he dropped HYPE!, a mixtape that garnered significant buzz, and since then he’s been grinding day in and day out with the rest of his Gentlemen’s Club fam, earning everything that’s come his way so far.
Reem opened for fellow #12For12 member Bigg Dee at his #TOTB Mixtape Release Party on June 12th, and I’d be shocked if anyone in the venue that night knew it was his first concert performance by the way he delivered onstage.
Check out the video above. TGC TV Episode 1 details the hours leading up to Reem’s performance at the Middle East Upstairs and contains over five minutes of concert footage – followed by a cameo and shoutout from yours truly. That’s how that goes. I was honored to be a part of it. Boston hip-hop is on the rise. This is truly only the beginning.
Enjoy the video, and stay tuned for much more from Reem.
